Ce café portera sur les mécanismes de défense contre les patents trolls. Problème essentiellement américain aujourd’hui, des solutions ont été créées outre-Atlantique pour protéger son activité des patent trolls. Toutefois, l’arrivée de la JUB apporte des incertitudes quant à cette pratique sur le territoire européen.

  • Keith Bergelt, Open Innovation Network (OIN):

Having previously led two hedge funds, served as a technology advisor for Texas Pacific Group, headed business development, IP, and licensing for the Kelso & Company portfolio company Cambridge Display, and acted as General Manager of the Strategic Intellectual Asset Management business unit at Motorola, he is a frequent speaker on corporate strategy, finance and intellectual property management.

  • Shawn Ambwani, Unified Patents, LLC:

Shawn Ambwani, COO and Founder of Unified Patents, LLC. Unified Patents’ mission is to stop low-quality assertions by aggressive SEPs and NPEs and to help improve patent quality and decision making. He is responsible for running Unified’s operations, counsel & docket management, analytics, and marketing.

He has co-authored papers on PTAB analytics and procedures which have been published in law reviews affiliated with the U. of Chicago, U. of Colorado, and Northwestern among others. A full list of his contributions can be found in SSRN.

Prior to Unified, Shawn was VP of Licensing and Business Development at Intertrust Technologies, Inc. responsible for patent and technology licensing programs with over $500 million in revenue.

Prior to that he founded or was a senior executive at companies which have gone IPO. EVP & GM, Platform Divison at Nexstreaming (KOSDAQ: 139670) and Co-Founder, VP of Sales and Business Development at Envivio (NASDAQ; ENVI / purchased by Ericsson). Shawn has a JD/MBA from Boston University and a BS in Mathematics from UCLA. He is an active member of the California Bar.

  • Sam Wiley, LOT Network:

Sam Wiley joined LOT Network in 2023 to lead LOT’s thought leadership and partnerships initiatives and is a recognized expert in intellectual property (IP) data and analytics.

In his career, he has examined patents with the USPTO, testified in Federal court on the value of IP, and advised clients ranging from Fortune 100 multinational companies to boutique law firms on implementing technologies that streamline IP operations and provide critical decision support on innovation strategy. He has presented on IP and innovation topics across North America, Europe, and Asia, and is the chair of the Licensing Executives Society Valuation and Pricing Committee. He has been identified as one of the top 300 IP strategists in the world by IAM, and is an instructor with AMAVI, a France-based non-profit created to develop and offer the premier globally recognized professional qualification in intellectual property valuation.

Sam holds a BS in Computer Science from New Mexico State University, as well as a Juris Doctor and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Arizona.
